Hunting & Fishing

We strive to accommodate outdoorsmen!  Our décor includes several deer trophies (and a turkey) mounted up on our balcony.  These are not just purchased decorations, but were provided from our local owners.  Our Lounge has a local reputation for delicious homemade pizza and a well stocked bar, and is decorated to hit just the right vibe.  You can also choose from a growing list of local restaurants in trending downtown Petersburg. Guest laundry facilities are available, and overall you will find that the Lodge is your perfect home base after a day outdoors!

Hunting
Hunting is a popular activity in Menard County – especially during deer season. Menard County attracts hunters from all over the country who come for the larger than average deer in the area. Some hunt on privately owned or leased grounds but others hunt at Jim Edgar Panther Creek Fish and Wildlife Area (JPEC).   JEPC includes 16,500 acres of land and has a lottery system in place for out of state hunters to assure them a beneficial experience. Bow and arrow season starts October 1 of each year and runs through the end of January.   Usually there are seven days set aside for firearms season during mid to late November and early December.

Hunters can also take advantage of the turkey, Coyote, and small game birds such as pheasant and quail.

The Illinois Hunter Home keeps hunters up to date on trends and licensing laws for various types of game. You can access their site here.

Archery
Archers from more than 35 states have been registered to hunt in Menard County.   Menard Archers Archery Club, a local outdoor private 3D archery course, has several open shoots per year and is otherwise open by invitation.

Fishing
Jim Edgar Panther Creek Fish and Wildlife Area (JEPC) has 3 lakes that are kept well stocked for your fishing enjoyment. Our Lodge sits on the banks of the Sangamon River which is used by both locals and guests who are looking for fishing opportunities.

The Original Redneck Fishing Tournament is not your average fishing tournament.  The Illinois river had become so saturated with Asian Carp that locals in nearby Bath, IL devised an annual event to thin the population of this invasive species. These fish will kind of just jump in the boat.  This annual event that has grown in popularity, is a great source of fun, with live bands and costume contests.  Local sponsors have come on board and proceeds support the Illinois Homeless Veterans.
